AMC: Taylor Swift and Beyoncé Break Record

AMC has announced a remarkable surge in revenue during the fourth quarter of 2023, attributing its success solely to the concert films “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” and “Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé.”

Excel Magazine International reports that the unprecedented collaboration between the two megastars saw the release of their respective concert movies within weeks of each other, revolutionizing the landscape of cinema distribution and revitalizing AMC’s fortunes.

“Despite a challenging box office environment, AMC’s revenue soared by 11.5 percent in the fourth quarter, with adjusted EBITDA nearly tripling,” stated Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Entertainment, during the company’s quarterly earnings call.

Aron credited the success directly to the screenings of Swift and Beyoncé’s films, which contributed significantly to theater ticket sales nationwide, collectively representing a substantial portion of the domestic box office in the fourth quarter.

“This remarkable outcome underscores the transformative impact of these releases, especially considering they were not part of our initial plans and mark the first-ever movies distributed by AMC in our 103-year history,” Aron added.

Expressing boundless gratitude towards the artists, Aron emphasized the pivotal role played by Swift and Beyoncé in propelling AMC’s success amidst the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a departure from traditional distribution channels, both Swift and Beyoncé negotiated directly with AMC, bypassing conventional Hollywood studios. This strategic move not only streamlined the process but also allowed for a more equitable profit-sharing arrangement, with AMC receiving 43 percent and Swift retaining the remaining 57 percent.

The decision to partner with AMC stemmed from Swift’s father, Scott Swift, who envisioned a direct collaboration to distribute the Eras movie, following unsuccessful discussions with Hollywood studios.

Swift’s film shattered records, with unprecedented first-day ticket sales of $26 million and a groundbreaking opening weekend, surpassing previous milestones set by blockbusters like “Avengers: Endgame.”

Similarly, Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” enjoyed substantial success, grossing nearly $22 million on its opening weekend and amassing $44 million globally during its 12-week theatrical run, according to Box Office Mojo.
