Blackdrum TV Marks Five Years of Promoting African Culture and Creativity

Blackdrum TV is celebrating a major milestone this week as it marks five years of continuous broadcasting, dedicated to showcasing African culture, creativity, and lifestyle. The channel, available on the StarTimes platform, has become a leading voice in telling authentic African stories to audiences across the continent and the diaspora. Launched on February 1, 2021, Blackdrum TV was created to highlight Africa’s rich heritage through engaging and relatable programming. Over the past five years, the channel has consistently delivered more than 100 hours of fresh content each week, catering to viewers between the ages of 16 and 65, and emphasizing stories that reflect the continent’s diverse experiences.

A key part of the channel’s programming is its coverage of live and recorded events, including concerts, festivals, fashion shows, art exhibitions, comedy performances, and cultural celebrations from across Africa. To date, Blackdrum TV has broadcast over 500 events, bringing vibrant African traditions and contemporary experiences into homes worldwide. In 2023, Blackdrum TV was elevated to a StarTimes Partner Channel, a recognition of its growing popularity and influence in the African media landscape. The status reinforces the increasing demand for television programming that authentically represents African culture and showcases the continent’s creative industries.

Executives at Blackdrum TV said the five-year milestone highlights the importance of media platforms that celebrate African identity and foster creative expression. By providing a platform for local creators and brands, the channel has played a pivotal role in expanding the reach of African cultural content across both television and digital media. Looking ahead, Blackdrum TV plans to expand its programming and collaborations, aiming to further elevate African voices and strengthen the global presence of African media.
