Meet Owowoh Oluchukwu: First Nigerian Female Officer Who Graduates From UK Military Academy

Officer Cadet Owowoh Oluchukwu has made history by being the first female Nigerian officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. It was a momentous day marked by triumph and trailblazing.

At the age of 24, Oluchukwu distinguished herself from her contemporaries by participating in the Sovereign’s Parade in London with 134 other Officer Cadets. This event marked the end of 44 weeks of intense training as part of Commissioning Course 232.

This momentous achievement, reverberating across continents, was formally announced by the Senior Communications and Public Diplomacy Officer of the British High Commission in Abuja, Atinuke Akande-Alegbe, on Friday.

Excel Magazine International believes Oluchukwu’s ascent not only amplifies the legacy of Nigerian officers at RMAS, which includes notable figures such as former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, and Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye but also proves the enduring commitment of the UK in bolstering Nigeria’s military education and training endeavors.

Her odyssey commenced at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State in 2018, where her mettle swiftly surfaced.

From assuming the mantle of Cadet Lance Corporal in her second year to ascending to the prestigious role of Company Senior Under Officer Charlie in her fifth year, Oluchukwu has consistently shattered barriers.

In her fourth year, she exhibited academic excellence, clinching First-class Honours in Biological Sciences, a testament to her unwavering dedication and unwavering capability.

Her graduation, marking the 190th Nigerian to emerge from RMAS, is not merely a personal conquest but also a reaffirmation of the enduring partnership between the UK and Nigeria in the realms of defense and security.

Reflecting on her monumental feat, Oluchukwu humbly remarked, “It is a profound honor to be the first Nigerian female officer to commission from the esteemed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

“This achievement is not mine alone, but a testament to the unwavering support of my family, mentors, instructors, and countless individuals who believed in me every step of the way.

“As I look ahead to the future, I am committed to representing Nigeria with pride, and to making a positive difference in the world.”
