Milan Fashion Week Adds Extra Day to September 2024 Schedule

Milan Fashion Week (MFW) has announced an extension to its September 2024 schedule, now running from 17 to 23 September, adding an extra day to accommodate growing industry demands.

The extension results from a year-long negotiation between the Italian fashion body Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) and international counterparts in the UK, US, and France.

The British Fashion Council (BFC), the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) collaborated with CNMI to revise the fashion calendar for 2024 and 2025, avoiding overlaps and creating synchrony among the four main fashion capitals: New York, London, Milan, and Paris.

Carlo Capasa, president of CNMI, expressed satisfaction with the new agreement, highlighting the benefit of an additional day for fashion shows in Milan.

This change aligns with the needs of Milan’s fashion brands and the broader fashion community, ensuring a smoother transition between the cities for the specialised public and brands.

The September 2024 edition will commence with a show by Fendi on Tuesday, 17 September. The additional day comes as Milan’s event, typically featuring over 200 scheduled appointments, sought more time to manage its busy calendar effectively.

The extension occurs amid a shifting global fashion landscape. Post-Brexit uncertainties have led many British designers to showcase their collections in Milan and Paris, targeting a broader range of international retailers and buyers.

Milan’s recent menswear season saw increased participation from British talents such as J.W. Anderson, Martine Rose, Dunhill, and David Koma.

This collaboration between major fashion capitals highlights a commitment to adapting to industry changes and ensuring the relevance and appeal of each event to a global audience.
