US May Lift Restrictions on Ukraine Using Long-range Missiles Against Russia – Biden

President Joe Biden has hinted that the United States may lift restrictions on Ukraine using US-supplied long-range missiles against Russia.

Excel Magazine International reports that this comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy visit Kyiv to discuss the issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukraine has repeatedly requested the US to loosen limits on its use of US-supplied weapons, which officials say has hindered their ability to fight against Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Russia has warned that such action could lead to “very serious problems”, with President Vladimir Putin stating that attacks by Ukraine on Russia with Western missiles risk triggering a wider war.

The US has imposed fresh sanctions on Iran for supplying Russia with ballistic missiles for use in Ukraine, including travel bans and asset freezes on several Iranians.

The development comes as Ukraine seeks to strike back against Moscow’s use of deadly “glide bombs”, which have proven devastating for Ukrainian forces in recent months.

Lifting restrictions on long-range weapons would allow Kyiv to target Russian air bases deep inside Russian territory, from which the bombs are launched.

The US has been reluctant to supply or sanction the use of weapons that could strike targets deep inside Russia, fearing escalation of the conflict.

However, with Ukraine’s allies supplying some long-range weapons, the US may be reconsidering its stance.
