US National Security Advisor Meets with Israeli Officials to Discuss Gaza Situation

National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan has held a series of high-level meetings with Israeli officials, including members of the war cabinet, to discuss the ongoing situation in Gaza and reiterate the United States’ “unwavering support for Israel,” the White House announced.

Excel Magazine International reports that Sullivan’s meetings included discussions with Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and war cabinet members Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot.

The White House statement emphasized that Sullivan received “updated briefings” on Israeli military operations in Gaza and reaffirmed President Joe Biden’s stance on the conflict, particularly regarding the offensive in Rafah.

President Biden has previously urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to exercise caution and avoid a full-scale invasion of Rafah without implementing safeguards to protect civilians.

The situation in Gaza has been escalating, with significant international concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict.

During his meetings, Sullivan underscored the urgency of Israel and Egypt concluding negotiations to reopen the Rafah border crossing. This crossing is a crucial point for humanitarian aid, which has been severely restricted since Israeli forces took control of the Palestinian side earlier this month.

The blockade has prevented much-needed supplies from reaching Gaza’s civilian population, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

The National Security Advisor also highlighted the need to increase aid distribution throughout Gaza via all available crossings, calling it an “imperative” to address the dire conditions faced by the residents.

The White House statement reinforced the US commitment to supporting efforts to alleviate the suffering in Gaza while maintaining strong support for Israel’s security.
