Why My Music Career On Hold for Long Time — Shakira

Renowned singer Shakira, aged 47, has opened up to The Sunday Times ahead of her long-awaited return to the music scene with her first studio album in seven years.

Reflecting on her hiatus from the spotlight, Shakira disclosed the sacrifices she made for her relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Pique and their children while residing in Barcelona.

“For a long time, I put my career on hold to stand by Gerard’s side so he could pursue his football career,” she revealed to the U.K. publication, highlighting the significant personal compromises she made in the name of love.

Excel Magazine International recalls that Shakira and Pique shared a bond spanning 11 years, from 2011 to 2022, and are parents to two children, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.

In June 2022, the couple announced their separation, prioritizing the well-being of their children while urging privacy from the public.

Last year, Shakira hinted at her personal struggles in the song “#53,” seemingly addressing her former partner and his new relationship.

Despite the challenges, Shakira is now poised to release “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” her latest studio album, symbolizing her journey of transforming pain into artistic expression.

Speaking to The Sunday Times further, Shakira described the album as a testament to resilience, stating, “It represents the transformation of pain into creativity, frustration into productivity, anger into passion, vulnerability into resilience.”

The Colombian-born artist revealed that music served as her anchor during turbulent times, allowing her to confront and overcome inner demons.

She expressed relief in exorcising the emotional turmoil through her music, emphasizing its cathartic effect on her healing process.

Shakira’s revelations extend beyond her personal life, as she previously addressed her tumultuous experiences, including allegations of tax fraud in Spain. Denying the accusations, Shakira recently settled the matter, prioritizing her children’s well-being and her own peace of mind.

Excel Magazine International believes with her new album set to debut on Friday, Shakira looks ahead to the future with optimism, focusing on her children and the promising opportunities awaiting her in her career.
