A funeral service called a Requiem Mass was conducted to pay tribute to Dr. Ndubuisi Vincent Ahaghotu in the United States.

By Ihiasota Boniface, USA

Thornton Wilder once said, “The highest tribute to the dead is not grief but gratitude.” This sentiment was evident at the requiem mass held to honor the late Dr. Ndubuisi Vincent Ahaghotu on Saturday, June 18, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. A requiem mass is a funeral service that is different from the regular funeral service and is often held in the Catholic Church to honor the deceased.

Family member last moment with the deceased

The ceremony was officiated by Rev Canon Dr. John TW Harmon and Venerable Clinton Chukwuemeka Esonu and was attended by family and friends who came from near and far to pay their final respects to the deceased.

Born on December 24, 1938, in Umuaghara, Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise in Imo State, Nigeria, Mr. Ndubuisi Vincent Ahaghotu was the last of six children. Despite not having a formal secondary school education, Dr. Ndubuisi was committed to education and eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Howard University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the same institution.

Dr. Ndubuisi was a committed Christian and was active in the work of God as a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and other religious bodies at home and abroad until his death. He spent most of his life in academia, lecturing at various universities and institutions in the United States.

Dr. Ndubuisi was not only an erudite scholar but also a loving husband, a good father, and a doting grandfather. He passed away at the age of 83 and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mmiriaku Ndubuisi, six children, a son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, twelve grandchildren, and many cousins, in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
