It also aimed to acknowledge the support that the American fashion community received. The Met Gala, which began in 1948, is an annual event that celebrates fashion and raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and the 2021 theme embodies the event’s spirit.
The upcoming fashion event is set to take place in New York on Monday, May 2nd, and will be a continuation of the first exhibition held in September with the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” The theme for the second exhibition is “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” which is intended to focus on the works and contributions of previous and often overlooked tailors, dressmakers, and designers, many of whom were women.
It is customary for attendees to dress according to the theme of the 2022 Met Gala, projecting its essence. Some of the dress codes to anticipate include outfits inspired by different eras and scenes from late 19th century New York, such as The Age of Innocence and The Gilded Age. Additionally, guests can expect to witness stunning appearances from A-list celebrities, just like in previous years.
The Met Gala keeps many details confidential, such as its rules against phone use and social media sharing during the event, as well as the list of invited guests. The guest list typically includes prominent figures like Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and various designers, among others, with a total of around 600 attendees expected to participate.
In general, those on the guest list do not have to pay to attend the show, but for individuals who want to purchase tickets, they cost $30,000 each, and tables are priced at $2745,000.
The hosts for the Met Gala 2022 were announced via a social media post from Vogue on April 21. Hamish Bowles, Vanessa Hudgens, and Lala were revealed as the hosts for the event.
Similar to the previous year, the Met Gala 2022 will be broadcasted live on Vogue’s website, with the Red carpet commencing at 6:00 pm EST.
